桉树（學名：Eucalyptus）又名尤加利樹，是桃金娘科桉属植物的總称。

形态


一般为常绿乔木；枝、叶花有芳香；叶子通常互生，有柄，全缘羽状脉，多为镰刀形；早春开白色、红色或黄色花，多为伞形或头状花序，萼片与花瓣连合成帽状体（花盖），开花时脱落；蒴果成熟时顶端3－5裂；种子多数有角棱。



分佈


它是澳洲木本植物中最具代表性的樹種。在已知的七百多種桉樹中，絕大多數生長在澳洲，少部分生長於鄰近的新幾內亞島和印度尼西亞，以及一種遠在菲律賓群島。


同屬的桉樹植物由於適應澳洲大陸各種不同的地理氣候，其覆蓋率遍及整個大陸。其他各大洲境內的植物，沒有一種可以像桉樹一樣，獨冠為一個洲內代表性植物的稱號。



用途


澳洲东部的30至50种桉树，其树叶为澳洲特有种动物树袋熊的唯​​一食物来源。其中细叶桉和脂桉可说是树袋熊的主食，二者约占40 %；大叶桉、小果灰桉和灰桉是等次要食物，三者约占40%；树胶桉、斑桉和白桉等更次一级，三者约占20 %；至于山蓝桉和赤桉等只能算是点心食物，偶而解馋之用。尤其是山蓝桉是提炼尤加利树精油的主要來源。


尤加利精油(Eucalyptus oil)是一种消毒、杀菌、抗病毒剂、缓解胸痛、祛痰、止咳。可做肌肉酸痛软膏。有除虫功效，也可以缓解昆虫咬伤的疼痛。


作為消除充血劑和溫和的殺菌劑，降低因血流增加而造成的腫大，鬆弛疲勞且疼痛的肌肉。對治療感冒、咳嗽和其他呼吸道疾病有效。吸入數滴精油所產生的蒸氣有助於黏膜的修復。



特点


因生长速度很快，对水的需求量较大。与其他植物相比，桉树对矿物质的需求量并没有特别巨大，所以民间流传桉树会导致严重的土壤退化是没有充分科学依据的[1]。



生態影響


因为桉树的经济价值与栽植成活率较高，在中国南方被大量种植，使得当地植物种类趋于单一化，打破了当地原有的生态平衡。此外，桉树本身带有的挥发性芳香油有驱虫作用，虽有经济价值，但亦会破壞种植地区生物链，造成鸟类等生物数量减少、以及桉油本身非常易燃，是造成澳洲、加州等地山火肆虐的主因之一。不过这些问题主要源自于人工造林的方式。在中国，人工林多为单一树种的纯林，并且在造林前常通过砍伐原有树木、炼山烧山、施用除草剂等方式除去原有物种，使得生物多样性遭到破坏，虫害和火灾易于发生。桉树人工林所面临的问题是各类人工林同样面临的问题。
