Rural Municipality of Bengough No. 40




Bengough No. 40 (2006 Population 337) is a rural municipality in south-east Saskatchewan, Canada encompassing 1,036.91 square kilometers in area. The rural municipality has within its boundaries the un-incorporated communities of Harptree, and Horizon. The rural municipality maintains its office in Bengough, Saskatchewan. The rural municipality in conjunction with the provincial government is in charge of maintenance of highways in its area. As well, the municipality provides policing, fire protection and municipal governance for the rural district, with a reeve as its administrator. The rural municipality was established on 1910.[1]

Heritage Properties


There are three historic building located within the rural municipality. These properties include:




  • Horizon Community Church Centre - Constructed in 1928, as the St. Cunegunda Roman Catholic Church in the then town of Horizon, Saskatchewan, approximately thirty kilometres west of Ogema, Saskatchewan.[5]


  • Horizon Federal Elevator - Constructed in 1922 in the town of Horizon, the grain elevator was in use until 1996 when the line was abandoned. A group of local farmer purchased the line and grain elevator as part of the Red Coat Road and Rail Ltd.[6]


  • Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Elevator - Constructed in 1953 in the town of Horizon, the grain elevator is still in use.[7]
