瑟丹是庫維因恩(Cuiviénen)甦醒的帖勒瑞族精靈之一,故此他沒有父母親,亦沒有記載指出瑟丹有任何妻兒。反而,瑟丹被記錄是帖勒瑞族王室之一,是埃爾威(Elwë)和奧爾威(Olwë)的親屬,但他們與瑟丹的確切關係並沒有清晰提及到。不過如此,瑟丹便與伊珥雯(Eärwen)、露西安(Lúthien)、費納芬家族(House of Finarfin),甚至遠及登丹人皇族都有親屬關係。另外,他或許有兄弟姊妹,因為貢多林使者沃朗威(Voronwë)的母親是一位法拉斯精靈,她也是瑟丹的親屬。
