Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam (20 September 1960 – 7 December 2013)[1] was an Indian comic actor and film director in Telugu language films.[2] acting in over 870 movies[citation needed]. He also hosted several popular television shows.

Early life


Subramanyam was born in a traditional telugu speaking Brahmin (Karna/Aruvela Niyogi) family at Komminenivaripalem, Prakasham district, Andhra Pradesh, India[3]



Career


Subramanyam originally worked as a government employee. He became popular through his comedy serial "Anando Brahma" which he both acted in and directed. It was aired on Doordarshan in the 1980s.


His first film appearance was in the Jandhyala-directed Jayammu Nischayammu Raa in 1989.[4] He was renowned for his comedy roles and flawless dialogue delivery.


Later, he went on to act in over 800 films
He also directed a Telugu film, Thokaleni Pitta, starring Naresh in the lead produced by Kona Venkat


Dharmavarpu was a close knit to the then chief minister Late shri Y S Rajasekhar reddy and has been active in the congress party


He hosted a political satire program 'Ding Dong' on Sakshi TV from 2011.


He was also the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Cultural Association



Death


Subramanyam died on 7 December 2013. He had been suffering from a liver disorder[5] and cancer.
