Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) is the metropolitan region around the twin cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. According to the 2016 reorganization of the region, PMR comprises two Municipal Corporations, three Cantonment Boards, seven Municipal Councils and 13 census towns and 842 villages spread over an area of 7,256.46 km2.[5][1][6] The population of the region as per 2011 census was 7,541,946.[3]


The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is the planning and development authority of the region formed. PMRDA is headed by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as the chairman. Kiran Gitte, IAS is the chief executive officer. The authority is responsible for various town planning schemes, Pune Ring Road as well as Pune Metro (Line 3).[7][8]

Jurisdiction


PMR is spread over 10 talukas of the Pune district. It includes the entire talukas of Pune City, Haveli, Maval, Mulshi, as well as parts of the Khed (Rajgurunagar), Bhor, Velhe, Purandar, Shirur and Daund talukas. The prominent urban local self-governing bodies in the region are as follows:[6]
