Mod DataBase（或称Mod DB）是一个专注于电子游戏模组的网站，2002年由Scott "INtense!" Reismanis建立。[2]截至2015年9月，Mod DB已有超过604万次的访问，超过12500个登记在案的模组，[3]超过108万次的下载。[4]同类[註 1]网站Indie DB在2010年上线，专注于独立游戏。

目的


Mod DB的目的是收集各种游戏的模组、文件、教程与介绍等由用户创建的内容。Mod DB大力推进社区参与性，每个模组都有自己的页面，允许用户上传截图、发布新闻和问题。Scott的意图从一开始就是就是让社区大量参与创造和开发，因此，最活跃的用户会被选中成为版主和管理员。核心工作人员一般保持不变，而较低的职位则在实习版主与管理员候选人之间大量轮换。



历史


Scott Reismanis在采访中说道“我的第一个网站是后来成为Gaminzone的Gamerzoned，然后是Chaosrealm和Modrealm”。[5] ModRealm被重构和改进以包括更多的开发工具；经过几个月的额外发展之后，此网站更名为ModDB。Reismanis自己编写了网站引擎的代码，这涵盖了所有与模组相关的内容。2002年6月，ModDB 1.0首次亮相，很快吸引了大量后来成为网站今天活跃的社区的基础的核心用户。2004年，网站的第二个版本上线，增加了许多新功能，网页也被重制了；第三版在2005年12月上线，再次重新设计了网页的界面。


2006年10月6日，另一个由Mod DB团队所创建的网站 Addon DB 对Mod DB的注册用户开放了公共测试。Addon DB旨在收集不适用于游戏模组类别的附加内容，包括模型、皮肤和地图。在创建Addon DB之后，Scott Reismanis创立了DBolical公司（之前的DesuraNET），随后获得了Addon DB和Mod DB的所有权。


2007年9月，ModDB进行了大修并将版本升级到了第四版，包括将Addon DB整合进Mod DB，重大增强则有注册游戏的选项与更好的私信系统。


2010年，DBolical公司的Indie DB网站上线，专注于独立游戏开发。[6]


2011年，Mod DB以“因被认为是创建者、支持者和制作者而收到了很多威胁邮件”为理由移除了一个名为“School Shooter: North American Tour 2012”的《半条命2》模组[註 2]。[7]

Mod DB的年度模组竞赛“金扳手奖”旨在评选富有创造力的、高质量的模组。评选是通过社区投票和工作人员的评测来得出最终结果，此竞赛旨在鼓励所有领域的（包括画质与游戏性在内的）模组开发。
